Kitchen Makeover Final Thoughts

This is the final post in my #WMNkitchenmakeover thanks to my friends at Nebraska Furniture Mart and Whirlpool. Here's part 1, part 2 and part 3 if you're just joining me.

As you know, we chose the Whirlpool Ice Collection in White Ice. Aren't they pretty? I love the set - they just look like one big happy family.

The refrigerator gives us a lot of extra space and I really like the pull out freezer. I now know our old microwave wasn't performing as well - the new one cooks things so much quicker and is so quiet. That's true for the dishwasher too - our dishes are so much cleaner now! And the stove - those two large front burners and super huge oven is a bakers dream.

As first-time homeowners, this was one one of the bigger investments we've made in our home. It really changed the look of our space and makes the home even more "us". Here are a few of my final thoughts that will hopefully help you purchase your new appliances.

  1.  Plan for the unknown. During the install we had a couple potential problems that luckily worked out but anytime you're doing home improvement it's good to have a little extra cash for the unknown.
  2. Clean the space. Having brand new appliances makes you want a super clean kitchen. I spent some time deep cleaning the kitchen - water/vinegar wash the cabinets, baseboards and counter tops.  I even cleaned out the cabinets and purged some unnecessary junk.
  3. Set aside a little more for other improvements. As soon as the new appliance were installed I immediately hated our old kitchen cabinet knobs. Cabinet hardware is really affordable just remember you need a lot - we bought 26 knobs for about $100.00.

  4. You'll want to do more. I think with any home improvement you'll quickly say - what's next? For us, we plan on updating our counter tops later this year. I'd also like to get our cabinets refinished. As much as I'd like it all done right now, it's okay to take your time and gradually research and plan your space.
Overall we're super happy with our decision. Nebraska Furniture Mart is such a great place to shop for all things home. Not only do they have a ton of options but the people are super helpful, professional and want to make sure you find the best product for your needs.
