You know what's better than Puppy Chow? Puppy Chow Bars. It's like all the magic of that powdered sugar coated goodness in a sophisticated dessert bar. Yes, bar desserts are sophisticated.
This is the perfect treat to make on a hot summer day. No oven heating up the already warm house and you can enjoy the treat within a 1/2 hour. Perfection.
The recipe called for crispy rice cereal but I only had a couple cups so I opted to use chex cereal. You could totally use either.
Puppy Chow Bars
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
4 cups crispy rice cereal OR chex cereal
1 cup miniature marshmallows
3/4 cup sifted powdered sugar
Line a 9x9 pan with foil and lightly butter. Set aside. Place cereal and marshmallows in a large bowl. Set aside.
In a microwave safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and peanut butter. Microwave for 30-45 bursts at 50% power, stirring between each burst until melted and smooth.
Pour melted chocolate/peanut butter over cereal and marshmallows and stir until evenly coated. Press into prepared pan. Sift powdered sugar over top of bars evenly.
Chill in refrigerator for 30 minutes, or until chocolate is set. Cut into squares and serve bars at room temperature.
