Our Breckenridge, Colorado Vacation

I’m a little off my baking game.  I made a batch of chocolate chip cookies that just didn’t turn out.  I made chocolate covered bananas and peanut butter and put them in the refrigerator instead of the freezer, thus, pure soggy mush was what I found the next day.  That also led to me stomping my feet and pouting like a 3 year old.

But I’m okay now.  J

So instead of a recipe, I’m going to do a vacation review, which does include food and pictures.  We just got back from a week’s vacation to Breckenridge, Colorado.  It was amazing.  We made the 11 hour drive from Kansas City to Breckenridge.  It was a perfect day for a drive and we even missed a storm that was just south of us, literally, like a ½ mile south.

I won’t bore you with all the fun we had, but here are some highlights…

We went White Water Rafting (Performance Tours was such agreat company!) in Buena Vista, CO.  And the drive to Buena Vista was a crazy and beautiful one through the mountains. (Note the road sign in the picture below.)

We zip lined (AVA company, great guides) in Idaho Springs, CO, which was the highlight of the trip for Jake and me.  The tour consisted of 6 different zip lines with the first one starting at the top of a mountain….no big deal.  It was also my 30th birthday so that was a super fun way to celebrate.  We will probably seek out other zip line tours on all future vacations.

We tried to limit the meals out to just one a day, and boy, did we eat some great food.  There are sooo many choices in Breckenridge alone; there is something for everyone.

Mi Casa in Breckenridge was highly recommended and did not disappoint.

Empire Burger, also highly recommended, had the most amazing and fresh burgers.  Apparently we ate the burgers and onion rings before we remembered to snap a picture.  But here are some pictures from Trip Advisor.

Giampietro was the spot for our Italian food fix.  We had the new York style pizza with pepperoni and sausage.  It not only was our dinner, but our breakfast and lunch the following day.

We did consume some adult beverages at The Breckenridge Brewery, The Dredge, and Rita’s.  Heck, it was a vacation.

Of course I had to have some kind of sweet, especially on my birthday.  We picked up cupcakes at Rocky Mountain Cupcake.  I had the Rocky Mountain (seemed fitting) and Jacob had Cookie’s and Cream.  The cake was firm and the frosting was perfectly sweet.

If you are looking for a relaxing place to get away Breckenridge is the place.  The scenery is beautiful, weather is super (August: high of 70’s, low of 50’s), people are friendly, tons of outdoor activities, unique shops, and lots of food options.

I’ll close with some pretty mountain pics.  Where did you go this summer?  I need ideas – I’m ready to plan the next vacation.  J

OH – our puppy.  Henry stayed at his favorite place, The Pet Ranch, while we were out of town. We sure did miss him but he was in great hands and the time apart didn’t seem to faze him.  He settled right back into his regular routine on Monday.  Plus, he got a brand new bone so that was pretty cool.
