Kansas City Restaurant Week is underway! Not only does this event give you the opportunity to try amazing food at local restaurants, but a portion of the proceeds go to local charities. Each restaurant has a set lunch menu for $15 and a dinner menu for $33.
My friend La'Shonda of Fashion Plate KC and I are using this as an excuse to get together, have amazing food and share the fun with you. I'm going to go ahead and also dub this "restaurant week" on the blog - make sure to follow along on Instagram too!
Our first top was The Sundry (1706 Baltimore Ave, Kansas City, MO 64108). This has been on my list for some time. It's very much a local market and kitchen providing local produce, meats, fresh-baked breads and a kitchen serving dishes like meatloaf & stuff, seasonal risotto and fresh pastries.
They even make their own sodas (or pop for the fellow mid-westerns). The Cardamom Lemon was outstanding.
Since we're friends, La'Shonda and I decided share both of their special Restaurant Week dishes.
- Sous-vide of the Earth- Farm Distillery pork chop with compound herb butter served with wood mood mashed purple potatoes and rieger whiskey glazed carrots.
- Shatto Ricotta Gnocchi with Wakarusa valley mushrooms, sauteed kale, shaved fennel and parmesan.
Both dishes were excellent. I now think all carrots should be cooked with whiskey, pork chops should always be nearly two-inches thick and gnocchi should be enjoyed regularly.
We topped off the meal with a giant chocolate chip, oat and nut cookie. Amazing.
I was impressed with the customer service - Joel was very knowledgeable about the ingredients and everything that makes The Sundry special.
I'll definitely be back for more. And, I'm eyeing their upcoming Valentine's Day event. Swing by when you're in the area - you won't regret it!
