Blind Box BBQ in Kansas City

Jacob and I are on a quest to try all the BBQ spots in Kansas City. It will probably take us 10 years but we're up for the challenge.

I've had Blind Box BBQ on my list for months so that was our first stop. They describe themselves as "...old school BBQ with a modern twist" and I totally agree. The restaurant atmosphere was perfection - servers wearing fun bow ties, beautiful wood tables, industrial lighting and light music playing in the background. As a marketing nerd I also really appreciated their overall branding, menu layout and style.

I've heard they get really busy so we opted to eat before the rush arriving at 5:00 on Saturday and had no problem getting a table, but when we left at 6:00 every table was full.

I had peeked at the menu beforehand and committed to ordering the Notorious P.I.G. The name alone is great but how could you go wrong with local, smoked sausage topped with pulled pork, mac and cheese and onion straws.  Yes, mac and cheese.

The sandwich was HUGE and amazing! The smoked sausage had just the right amount of spice to compliment the pulled pork, mac and cheese and onions. I did add a little sauce and it was honestly amazing with and without it.

I could only eat half of the sandwich but it sure did make a great lunch the next day. I love leftovers.

Jacob ordered the Podium Platter which included brisket, burnt ends and two sides. We went this route mainly so we could try more sides - house slaw and mac and cheese. The brisket and burnt ends were soooo tender and juicy.

The mac and cheese came in a little cast iron skillet and was amazingly cheesy. I would totally buy the house slaw by the pound - it was the best I've had in a long time.

Jacob liked it too. I had to laugh - he put his fork down and said, "so much for leftovers."

I have my eye on their happy hour specials and appetizers. I really regret not getting the BBQ Chips with house ranch. What a silly mistake. Next time those will be mine.

This is not a sponsored post - I just love trying new places and sharing my experience!

  1. I'm a native Kansas Citian, and I've never heard of Blind Box BBQ, but after seeing the pics in this post, I may have to go check em out! As far as where to go next goes, of course when most people think of Kansas City BBQ, they immediately think of Gates and Arthur Bryants, which are both amazing! (I just had Gates yesterday actually! lol) Unfortunately, I have too many places on my go-to list as well - LC's, BB's Lawnside, Q39, Joe's Kansas City (which used to be Oklahoma Joe's) just to name a few. Hope you have a wonderful BBQ experience here!

    1. Yes, add to your list - totally worth it! I think LC's might be next and then Gates. Thanks for the feedback!
